The Critical Period

The critical period is the idea that the brain only develops certain aspects of vision up to a certain age, and after reaching that age, it is very difficult or impossible to change how the brain perceives.

Now sometimes called a "dogma" of optometry, evidence has shown that the critical period is not as firm as once believed. It is possible to relearn many aspects of vision at older ages, though it is much more difficult.
